EDEN for 'GIVING' page 2

As an animal-loving paper enterprise, our inspiration comes from nature; we are passionate about our beautiful planet and the incredible and diverse eco-systems it supports.  We are aware of our own environmental impact and want to give back what we take.  When we discovered Eden Reforestation Projects, this felt like the perfect way of paying it forward.

EDEN REFORESTATION PROJECTS

Eden are an amazing not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to provide fair wage employment to impoverished villagers whilst reducing the negative effects of deforestation.

As one of the most cost-effective reforestation projects in the world, they hire the poorest of the poor to grow, plant, and guard to maturity native species forest in severely deforested areas of the developing countries Nepal, Madagascar, Haiti, Indonesia and Mozambique.

While the primary goal is to lift people out of extreme poverty, Eden have also become a model for environmental restoration and land management.

THE PROBLEM WITH DEFORESTATION

The destruction of healthy forests creates devastating problems, both environmentally and socially. In just the last 100 years, over half of the world’s forests have been cut down. Trees are vital for controlling air pollution, providing a habitat for animals and endangered species, purifying water systems, controlling flooding and erosion and also help to replenish soil with nutrients for farming.
