National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus Appeal
During a time of national emergency, we want to do our tiny part to support the work of charities and organisations that are helping communities made most vulnerable by the coronavirus outbreak. To do this, we will be posting out bundles of 10 love & friendship cards, in exchange for a donation of £10, directly to the National Emergencies Trust (NET) Coronavirus Appeal.
The NET, in partnership with the British Red Cross, "will work collaboratively with a wide range of organisations to ensure the maximum amount of money is raised and distributed securely, effectively, and fairly to those organisations and local charities who can do most to help those in need." We are so passionate about our beautiful planet and the incredible and diverse eco-systems it supports. Our own environmental footprint is something we are constantly striving to improve, and our partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects and support of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, are additional ways that we can start to give back what we take.
Eden Reforestation Projects
Eden are an amazing not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to provide fair wage employment to impoverished villagers whilst reducing the negative effects of deforestation.
As one of the most cost-effective reforestation projects in the world, they hire the poorest of the poor to grow, plant, and guard to maturity native species forest in severely deforested areas of the developing countries Nepal, Madagascar, Haiti, Indonesia and Mozambique.
While the primary goal is to lift people out of extreme poverty, Eden have also become a model for environmental restoration and land management.
To learn more about the work Eden are doing, head over to their website.
For every two packs of LMD cards you buy, Eden will plant one tree. That means for a carriage paid order of £120, ten trees will be planted where they are most needed.
Having planted more than 100,000 trees with Eden so far, we are now a Sapling Level Partner.
View our donation page HERE. (Please note, we calculate and update the tree count on a monthly basis, but donate quarterly).
" Born from one family’s passion for Kenya and its wilderness, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust has worked at a field level in Kenya since 1977 and is today recognised as one of the pioneering organisations for wildlife and habitat protection in East Africa."
Why the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust?
The SWT is a charity very close to my (Louise's) heart. I visited their elephant orphanage in Nairobi National Park during my second year of university and it was the first I'd learned of the incredible and far-reaching work they do to protect and preserve wildlife in Kenya.
It marked a poignant time in my development and direction as an illustrator, and was really the inspiration for me to start painting animals. For my third-year Final Major Project, I wrote and illustrated a picture book about a baby orphan elephant called Tibbo. Five years later, elephants feature often in my card designs and are still my favourite to paint.
It's an absolutely privilege, now, to be supporting them as a corporate partner.
Their life-saving work
The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust operates a multi-faceted approach to conservation. Best known for their 'Orphans' Project', the first and most successful elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world, their legacy also encompasses anti-poaching operations, safeguarding precious wildlife habitats, mitigating human-wildlife conflict and providing veterinary assistance to wild animals in need, all of this work being underpinned by engagement with local communities.
We donate 1% of our annual turnover to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (beginning 1st July 2019), to help support their mission to conserve, preserve and protect wildlife and habitats in Kenya.
By purchasing our cards, not only are you supporting a small business, you are contributing to the reforestation of this diverse planet and helping to protect and preserve wildlife in Kenya. We are so grateful for your support.
